At SJ Osborne and Son, we have over 50 years of experience with locks of all types. We offer a full repair or replacement service for most locks available on the market today.

We also work with legacy and period or antique locks which other locksmiths may not be able to cater for.

Damaged Locks

Locks do wear out over time.

That’s why we are specially trained and equipped to repair them.

We cater for door locks, window locks, garage locks and any other type of lock you may have in your home or at your business premises.

Once we have opened the lock in question we can then assess whether or not it is economical to repair or cheaper and more effective to replace.

Sometimes the lock isn’t at fault and it is the key that needs replacing. We can do this on-site whilst you wait to save you time and money.

Types of Damaged Locks We Can Service

We can repair and service almost any type of lock that you may have at your property.

Below are a few of the main types that we service.

Mortice Locks

Mortice Locks are the most common type of door lock we service. This type of lock is the most prone to failure by general wear and tear.
Many of the callouts we receive for these types of locks are the result of burglary attempts which leave the lock damaged or buckled.
If the lock has been forced we always recommend replacing it completely with something more secure.

Cylinder locks (Yale Style)

This type of lock can easily be repaired which is more cost-effective than a full replacement.
We carry most spare parts for Yale locks so we can repair them in one call out, unlike other locksmiths who will need to order parts in.
If we do have to replace, we can usually repair the barrel, saving you time and money.
As standard, two keys will come with a new barrel but we can cut more on location if required.

UPVC Locks (doors)

Often when we are called out to a UPVC lock on a door the main issue we encounter is that the doors have dropped considerably due to changes in the weather.
We can help with this if we are already on site but it is not normally one of our services. To check this before calling us out you should open the door and see if the mechanism can get into the locked position. If it can then the doors will need adjusting and that can be done by screws normally located under the hinges.
If you have a lock that won’t open it is often that the multipoint lock has failed, we can replace this on the spot depending on the type of lock.

UPVC Locks (windows)

We service all types of UPVC window locks. These types of locks are cheaper to repair due to the fact that we can swap out barrels on most styles.
If the mechanism has completely failed we can replace the whole locking unit on site.
